Describe how the Morehouse School of Medicine Prevention Research Center (MSM PRC) research and prevention initiatives are implemented in direct response to priorities identified through community-based participatory research (CBPR)-driven needs and assets assessment. Led by a community-majority coalition board, the assessment coupled state and city secondary data with primary survey data collected by and from community residents. The assessment-informed and established a data-driven community-engaged research agenda, policy, systems and environmental change approaches, community-led grants, and job creation leveraging neighborhood contexts and strengths.

About The 2024 Research Capacity Building Webinar Series
The Center presents its 2024 monthly webinar series to advance interdisciplinary community-engaged research that will inform programs and policies to better serve African American children and families.
The webinars will build research capacity and recommend methods to conduct research relevant to the ACF program and policy goals and communicate community-engaged research approaches to a broad audience of students, community leaders, practitioners, researchers, and state and federal policymakers.
Ultimately, these webinars will inform approaches to improve the well-being of African American children and families.
Objectives
The objectives of the monthly Webinar Series are to describe:
Relevant research methods can be used to define and measure the needs, assets, and experiences of African American children and families, specifically those with low incomes.
Community-engaged and other research that identifies and assesses barriers and facilitators of access to and utilization of TANF/poverty alleviation, Head Start/Early Head Start, and child care financial assistance programs by African Americans.
Promising strategies and approaches in TANF, Head Start/Early Head Start, and child care financial assistance programs for African American children and families.
Effective strategies for communicating and disseminating relevant research findings that promote the well-being of African American children and families, specifically in areas aligned with ACF’s and The Center’s research priorities.
